Space Planning

We work with organizations to create appropriate spaces and facilities to enhance the working environment for all.

We have experience working with a ranges of organizations such as:

A.D.D, a small but highly motivated disability charity based in a 1970s office building.

New 4 storey offices and stores for Abels Boatbuilders on Bristol Docks, constructed by the client to reflect their shipbuilding skills.

Reorganization of existing offices for packaging company Lawson-Mardon Flexible.

Sedgemoor District Council reorganization of the council and re-servicing main offices in a 1970s office building.

Avon & Somerset Police New Force Headquarters Operational Offices.

For new-build projects such as the Police Headquarters our underlying design philosophy and approach to ensure flexibility into the future is achieved in the following ways:
The diagram above shows the relationship between servant (toilets, kitchens, lockers etc.) and served spaces (offices). The flexibility within this arrangement is achieved by sharing the same dimensions for standard floor, wall, ceiling and furniture components. Some areas, such as zones dedicated to toilets, would be relatively immutable; others, such as areas dedicated to offices, would be fully flexible. Office areas and workstations are grouped to reflect the structure of teams working within the organization. Work stations can be added to or rearranged to reflect team changes; for example, data and electrical outlets are easily repositionable. Careful selection of materials for floors and ceilings; and furniture ensures that sound levels are kept discreet in open plan areas of work.
Departments are arranged as groups of teams. Any changes to the make up of the teams within a department can be accomodated, and, as furniture would be moved, so partitions and floor mounted electrical and data outlets can be moved also.
The departments themselves are able to expand or contract by adjusting their boundaries within the overall floor plan. The provision of additional electrical and data services, partitions and offices is done by the simple addition of outlets and partitions within the existing floor grid.
