Three Councils have commissioned Bruges Tozer to develop pilot studies for converting existing council offices to ‘One Stop Shops’ for delivery of all services to the public. The strategy developed through consultation with Council staff that generated a multi-tasking ‘reception’ desk suitable for use at different sites which could accommodate the varying nature of public enquiries and balancing the need for customer confidentiality with surveillance and staff security.The arrangement of waiting areas with childrens play space, reception desks, meeting rooms and video-conferencing facilities provides in the words of South Gloucestershire Council:
“The staff working in the shops feel it is an extremely pleasant working environment, and that their dealings with the public have been a lot less strained than in the past due to the pleasant and non-confrontational design of the working area. All in all we have hit spot-on the key objectives of the brief, creating a facility which supports the One Stop Shop principle, and is a showcase for the Council.”
